Our Choice Matters 2023-2024

The Our Choice Matters Self Advocate Group had a busy and productive 2023!!

 In the spring we held a fundraising dance at CAP and had fun. We hosted a first annual Mini Golf Fundraising Day at the Elgin Mall in St Thomas with the support of Railway 1856 and Joe the owner. It was so much fun and we had a good turnout. We were able to build on friendships and make community connections! Everyone was asking when the next one would be! In September, Richard and Blair were able to ride the train to attended the Community Living Ontario Conference as representatives of Our Choice Matters. They saw so many people they knew and made new friends. It was a great networking opportunity for all.

In the fall, we attended the Speaking Out Conference as planning committee members in Port Elgin. Our OCM executive meet with the Speaking Out planning committee once a month to plan a conference for self-advocates, families and support professionals. The group plays a vital role in planning, organizing and helping to host this event in Port Elgin. This is a lot of work and time consuming but well worth it! It is a great opportunity to learn and connect with people! We also did a fundraising basket and it was well supported.

The OCM group meets once a month usually, the second Tuesday of the month from 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm at the Community Living Elgin head office where we discuss matters that are important to people, connect, listen and learn from each other.
