Success Story – Marg and Moose

By Krista Flay / William Vanraes

Full Circle Ranch is a place where people can go to build confidence in themselves, and develop life skills by working directly with the horses, ponies and other animals that live on the farm. Sometimes when new animals arrive, they need some assistance building new skills and working on their own self confidence. Moose, who joined Full Circle Ranch this year, is an adorable, yet quirky and rambunctious girl who had damaged hind legs.

Marg has been attending Full Circle Ranch through a partnership with Community Living Elgin. During her time at full Circle, Marg has gained knowledge of the different animals on the farm, and her confidence in herself has grown tremendously.

On the first day that Moose joined Full Circle Ranch, Marg was asked if she could assist with training Moose with the hopes of adding Moose in with the other miniature ponies as a therapy pony. Marg enthusiastically agreed to take this on. Since September Marg visits with Moose on a weekly basis, and assists by grooming Moose, leading her through obstacles that Marg set up, feeding Moose and taking Moose on trail walks. It has been clear from the beginning that Marg and Moose genuinely love spending time together and have formed an incredible bond of trust and friendship together.

Moose has now successfully joined the other miniature ponies and continues to make progress at Full Circle Ranch thanks in large part to her friend Marg. What started out as a benefit for Marg turned into an opportunity for her to give back to someone else in need.
